Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data Zillville (the game, the Zillville launcher and this website) collects, why, how long we keep it and what your rights are. Zillville is a free early-access game. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other sites.
Who is responsible
The Zillville team, an independent project from Belgium
Email: zillvillesupport@gmail.com
What we collect and why
Your account and characters
- Username and password. The password is stored only as a salted, one-way hash; we can't read it.
- Game data: your characters' names, looks (including heads and outfits you draw in the editor), level, experience, items, quests, stats, titles, friends list, crew/guild membership and similar game progress.
We need this to run your account and the game for you (legal basis: performing our agreement with you, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). We don't ask for your real name, email address, date of birth or payment details.
Chat
Messages you send in global, crew/guild and private chats are stored on our servers so they can be delivered and shown as history, and so we can act on abuse, cheating or illegal content (legal basis: our agreement with you, and our legitimate interest in keeping the game safe, Art. 6(1)(f)). Don't share personal information in chat. How long messages are kept: see below.
Connection data
To connect you to the game, our servers see your IP address. It is used to limit repeated login attempts and is kept only in memory while the server runs; our game servers don't write it to logs (legal basis: legitimate interest in security, Art. 6(1)(f)).
The launcher
The launcher downloads the game and its updates from our storage at Cloudflare, checks them, and starts the game. It stores its settings (install folder, preferences) on your own computer. It contains no tracking or analytics.
This website
This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Fonts are loaded from this site itself. When you visit the site or download a file, our host Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request data to deliver it and protect against attacks.
Who processes data for us
- Microsoft Azure hosts the game servers and their database, in Sweden (EU).
- Cloudflare hosts this website and the game downloads. Cloudflare may process data outside the EU; it is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and uses the EU's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Both act on our behalf under their data processing terms. Links to Discord and itch.io take you to their own services, which have their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it
Early-access wipe: when the full version of Zillville is released, we delete all early-access accounts, characters and chat messages, including our backups of them. We announce the date on the Discord and in the launcher beforehand.
Until then, account, character and chat data are kept for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and the data linked to it within 30 days, except where we must keep something to deal with abuse or a legal claim. Server backups that may still contain it are overwritten within a few weeks.
Age
Zillville is for players aged 16 and older. If you are younger, don't create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit its use, receive it in a portable format, or object to its use. Email us from any address and tell us your username; we may ask you to prove the account is yours (for example by logging in and doing something we ask in game). We answer within one month.
To delete your account, email us with your username. (A delete button in the game is coming.)
You can also complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority: dataprotectionauthority.be, Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels.
Security
Logins and gameplay travel encrypted (HTTPS / secure WebSockets). Game updates are signed and the launcher refuses files that don't match. No system is perfectly secure; use a password you don't use anywhere else.
Changes
If we change this policy we update the date above, and for important changes we announce it on the Discord and in the launcher's news.
